| Neuropager is an idea developed by Hamid Sami, MD, MSc. Dr. Sami combines
finely hone skills as a clinical neurologist with his skillful mastery of
electronic, computer, and Internet capabilities to find practical,
cost-effective, user-friendly solutions to problems facing not only neurologists
but all medical practitioners. The medical informatics tools that Dr. Sami is
developing to improve the quality of life and of medical attention that can be
accessed by patients with chronic degenerative diseases. In this age of managed
care, with cost conscious plan administrators limiting the coverage of medical
services and deciding that a physician may spend only a certain amount of time
seeing a patient for a particular condition, Dr. Sami is offering ways for
practitioners to extend the care they offer and control costs to the patient,
the patient’s family, and medical insurance carrier. In particular, Dr. Sami’s Internet-based reminder system (“Neuropager”) can be configured to solve some of the most troublesome problems of caring for chronically disabled patients with neuromuscular disorders. The system provides medical practitioners and family members with a way of monitoring the condition of a person who may not be able to seek help or report on changes in health status. It also provides the patient with reminders of when to take medications, schedule or go to doctor’s appointments, or take other critical health-supporting actions. For patients who live in remote locations, Neuropager gives health care professionals a way of checking up on a person’s well-being from a distance. Obviously, the Neuropager has widespread applicability to scenarios in all fields of medical practice. |
